Noshi - best wishes
Noshi was born on November 7, 2018. He came to us in December 2019 (1 year and 1 month old). We are his third owners. Unfortunately, we know very little about him before that. Noshi was described as a friendly dog. He couldn't stay in his second home. He was beyond unworldly and unfriendly. Dog trainers weren't helpful, and he was rehomed and thus returned to us.
We weren't expecting it at the time. When we first applied and didn't hear anything, we closed the matter and continued looking for a companion for Reiko. Then, suddenly, after many weeks, we received a call. Our interest was still there. He was a great boy for Reiko to play with, given his age. His bloodline was very interesting and healthy for our breeding program, we thought.
Events unfolded rapidly in the urgency of the matter. A few days later, he arrived. A hyperactive young male who couldn't have been more nervous. Noshi didn't know how to use a vacuum cleaner; everything was new. A new, strange world opened up for him. Like a distraught tiger in a cage, he paced back and forth. He couldn't rest, wanted to go out every two hours, and had zero social skills. He didn't even know basics like showing his teeth.
After Noshi came to us, we had to take him to a dog show in Kassel. He was so insecure and aggressive toward other dogs that he was almost impossible to contain, and the stress resulted in immediate diarrhea.
A tough, rocky road lay ahead of us to resocialize Noshi. They say you need to invest time to straighten out a dog's behavior. But Noshi made good progress, and our children showed him a lot.
Today, we can say that he's improved tremendously and has done well. Of course, he still has some insecurity that gets the better of him and causes him to regress into old habits, but this is getting better. We've started taking him to shows and find this very beneficial for his resocialization, especially since he's exposed to many different dogs. He can still be provoked, but he has a certain "pain threshold."
Noshi, we're proud of you. You're a great uncle and companion. We love you the way you are, you big old kisser. xP
Our dear Boshi has super-healthy parents, but unfortunately, he has severe HD (E). A diagnosis you wouldn't wish on a teenager at 1 year and 2 months old... We suspect this is due to improper handling. During our annual vet visit in December 2020, we discovered that he was already experiencing slight pain. Hopefully, he will continue to watch over us and dig holes for many years to come. His friendly, happy romping brightens our spirits, which are clouded by his health...
Boshelchen's health was very dramatic. After Reiko's successful fight, it was now Boshel's turn. He had been having urinary tract problems for some time. It all started in the summer of 2023. When he peed, a stream of blood came out instead of urine. The visit to the vet provided little insight. Despite catheter urine analysis, we couldn't find a cause and treated him for a cystitis. Everything was pretty good so far. We could live with his "little problems" and found solutions. But then, about a year later, in the summer of 2024, he had deteriorated significantly and was barely recognizable. We discovered an enlarged testicle. The ultrasound revealed a tumor. The surgery was frightening. The tumor continued to grow. What looked like a walnut in the testicle during the ultrasound turned into a mango in the abdomen during the surgery.
Noshi thus ends his (our!? ^^'') dream of becoming a veteran champion and enjoys his retirement in the pack with renewed vigor.
