Our region, the Mansfelder Land - today Mansfeld-Südharz (MSH)
Some of you may be wondering why we're going to so much trouble, especially since there are certainly some of you who aren't interested in this, for example. But we think it's important! It's our region, our culture, and our tradition.
The Mansfeld region is a mining region. Our beautiful slag heaps are impossible to miss. For a long time, copper ore mining provided our ancestors with a secure and good income, albeit with difficult and hard work. There are many museums in our region. All of them are worth a visit. You can go down the old tunnels and learn more about the working conditions of the time. Since mining ceased, traditional associations still try to preserve history. They lead tours of the slag heaps, among other things. One of them, which I see every day and love, is our Wolf/Fortschrittsschacht (progress shaft). The nearest is the Otto-Brosowski-Schacht (OBS for short), where I often go shooting.
You can even still find many fossils in the old quarries. Everything from fish to plants and beans (fish poop ^^) is there.
Further information - knowledge which is bundled and stored for the future can be found in the link.
Our region is predominantly made up of fields and meadows. Larger bodies of water, such as the Salziger See and Süßer See, are just a few minutes' drive away, as are the forests in the Harz Mountains. In addition to a huge orchard, we also have vineyards. A region that simply has everything to offer. So why travel so much? If only to see exhibitions ^^
We'd also like to briefly mention the Vatterode Pond. It's a great place for hiking. In Vatterode itself, you can treat yourself to a meal at Werni's (Restaurant Zum Goldenen Hammer). The prices and portions are indescribable. The best part... children are always welcome!
Another highlight in our region is the opportunity to take our children on excursions. We have two zoos nearby (Halle and Aschersleben) and one animal park (Walbeck), which allow children to be brought along for a small entrance fee.
But we shouldn't forget our beloved Brocken. The highest mountain in our region. It attracts many hikers every year. Another highlight is the Hiking King and Emperor. This award is given to those who can prove they have completed several hiking routes and have earned the corresponding stamp there.
We have a lot to offer in terms of tourism, but we are probably a bit of an insider tip.
In this sense, here is a small gallery with pictures of Mone Sbeautiful Heimat :)
